When I was in the third grade, I wrote in my journal that I wanted to be a writer, an artist and a teacher...so far I've hit two out of three!
I taught Drawing, Yearbook and Photography at Kuna High School from August of 2005 to May of 2016. Now, I am a full time artists volunteering at KHS as the Art Club Advisor. Prior to KHS, I began teaching in a private Montessori school, Rose Hill Montessori, in 1998 - staying there for four years before leaving to complete my teaching degree. While at Boise State University, I was the "art mom" for multiple classrooms for several years at Jackson Elementary school in Boise. The "art mom" position lasted while my daughter was in elementary school, she has now graduated from KHS and is off to college. My husband, Coach Tookey, and I are excited for what the future holds for her.
I work every day on my art. I am filming a new TV show called Art Unlocked with Jessica Tookey that will air on Boise TV Channel 22.3 as well as boise.isonmy.tv. In October of 2014 I began my Words Matter exhibit, a suicide prevention exhibition. This exhibit is growing and traveling to different venues. I show, and sell, my work from various businesses around Boise and Meridian as a featured artist of the month or on permanent display as in The Boise TechMall. I have also been selected as the Artist of the Month for the Eagle Arts Commission, Meridian Arts Commission, and a RAW artist. I do commissioned artwork for clients (painting, drawing, graphic design and photography). When I'm not painting or working my business, I love to explore the mountains...getting as far away from civilization as possible. So, if you can't reach me, look to the hills.
